Stop BatNostalgia by MexPirateRed Stop BatNostalgia by MexPirateRed
How many reviews and haters of the new or old Batman we see?
Many, all of them based on nostalgia or invalid points of view.
Batman has changed with the years and for the needs of the medium.
There is no defenitive Batman and even comic book Batman is not what people say he is.
Batman is not perfect, he fails and he cant do everything, he is a human that decide to fight evilness.
Also any person that know anything about Batman, knows this "Mythology" changes with time and medium.
Arkham Give to you a Joker that was a Godzilla type creature, still i dont see people going ballistic about this, because it made sense in this medium and in this mythology.
New Version, New Medium, New Mythology.
Batman movies, tv shows and cartoon are to be viewed as a GRAPHIC NOVEL and do not have to fit into the continuity of the Batman Comics.
Batman humanity made him popular.
Please end this.
:iconlordhadrian::iconsaysplz:I never realized people fought over a "proper" Batman. Each one is unique, each one contributes to the legend
Adam West: To me, it's an interesting idea because Batman – the character, the legend, the extension of it over all these years – it lends itself to different machinations, layers, different time zones – anything. You could really pretty much mold Batman. He's malleable, welcome and always interesting. They [Christopher Nolan] do The Dark Knight, and I did The Bright Knight. Ours was fun for the whole family.
Adam West on Nolan: Yes! Absolutely. I'm a fan of anything that's good, especially when it's conscientiously good.
He was Batman and is not living in the past, he understand Batman and loves him, if you dont understand this, you love, Burton, Nolan or whatever, not Batman, so stop calling yourself Batman Fans

So glad I found this while browsing. And I totally agree! Each Batman is different, each writer who writes the character--for TV, the Big Screen, or the comics--are different, and to each their own Batman. I've come to appreciate the character for what he is: a symbol. The man behind the cowl shouldn't matter, no matter the adaptation.

To be honest George Clooney isnt a great actor and just because he is a "liberal icon" people overrates him.
His work isnt special at all.

Great Point of View. An interpretation of the character doesn't invalidate the others. It's just different.

Nolan and ONeill are the best example.
Mike W. Barr try to set old ideas from the comics into the more modern and urban style of Batman.
ONeill said he did his comic books as reallistic as the characters and the medium let him.
Years later, Nolan decide to take them as his main example and people goes nuts, he keep the Temple Origin from ONeill and the killing Ras in a bizarre way from W. Barr.
He introduce into his reallistic modern style the Lazarus Pit and the Golden Age Batman being with Catwoman ending.
In 75 years there has being many intepretation, sure Nolan Batman isnt like Grant Morrison or Frank Miller.
But isnt less Batman, i could complaint of the Burton chessy ideas, but all of those ideas came of the golden age comic books.
Schumacher decide to bring the early silver age goofyness and campyness, heck the Adam West show was more mature that the comics books.
75 years, nobody knows how many writers since he has be in tv, movies, theater, radio, video games and etc...
All of those intepretations of one character, there isnt just one Batman.

I like most of the batmen. My favorite is the Injustice batman because he fights on par with Superman and Wonder Woman, two who can BLOW UP A PLANET. And he crushed the other superman's regime and set Earth 1 up as a democracy. So, yeah, Injustice Batman is my favorite batman, but not the best batman.

Great juxtaposition of the Batman/Bruce Wayne aspects of the actors who played him.  Really good list!

All that's missing are

Lewis G. Wilson from the 1943 serial "Batman",

Robert Lowery from the 1949 serial "Batman and Robin",

and

George Turvey from the 2011 play "Batman Live"

Sure Affleck is not the best acto, but bad actor had get into the top of their game many times, Keanu is a great example, of course Keanu can do his stunts and put him ahead of Affleck but still.

:iconjakethedogplz::iconsaysplz:Because many people dont know Conroy, what show how may people that complaints arent even Batman fans, since they dont know the officcial voice actor of Batman, i mean is not only TAS, it even the Arkham Games, they dont know him because they never saw him or saw his face.
It gets worst if you mention Peter Weller who was the voice of old Batman in Returns, i liked his job, with the Joker gets worst, they know Mark Hamill for being Luke Skywalker, but no John DiMaggio even when he is the voice of many classic character, maybe the most famous Bender B. Rodriguez.
I am a Batman fan, not super hardcore like the guys from Batmanology.

Of course it's a real argument. If Batman sounded like he was 12 years old wouldn't you criticize the actor? The fact that many people burst out laughing at Bale's "Bat-Voice" isn't really a good sign.

:iconjakethedogplz::iconsaysplz:No, i wouldnt, because is part of a performance, i have to see all the performance and see if it fits an make some type of sense.
Its called internal logic.
If Darth Vader awesome voice was into a character that was a midget and not using the armour, the voice would sucked, because it wouldnt made sense.
People complaint about anything, the fact they didnt have something bigger that the voice as an argument, show they have to looks to hard to find things to complaint about.
Also the whole armour thing show people complaint about something that did happened in the past, Keaton used a more armour like costume and so did Clooney, then people gets a selective memory about it.
Those are arguments that people use, but overlook internal logic and the past Batman movies, what it show its not real criticism is just hating.

"No, i wouldnt, because is part of a performance, i have to see all the performance and see if it fits an make some type of sense."

Yes if there is a part of a performance you think was off, it would hinder your enjoyment of the performance. BATMAN should not sound like a chipmunk. If a character acts one way, he should probably have a reasonably fitting voice to accompany it. If you watch Anime, you'll know that some dubs are worse than others. The portrayal of the characters are more or less the same, but some actors just fit certain characters better than others.

For instance Batman and Darth Vader are supposed to be intimidating characters, the reason they didn't let David Prowse do the voice of Darth Vader is because his voice didn't sound right and wasn't menacing.

"People complaint about anything, the fact they didnt have something bigger that the voice as an argument, show they have to looks to hard to find things to complaint about."

No it doesn't, I said already that Bale was a decent Bruce Wayne, and he was a good Batman in Begins, but in Dark Knight/Rises his vocal performance got so ridiculous where it was to the point that people would laugh at him when he was supposed to be "intimidating". Too many people, myself included, it sounded silly, it was hard to understand, and there really wasn't a reason for it.

I can admit that the Begins/Dark Knight are good movies (Rises sucked though), but they're far from perfect movies. I'm not looking for things to hate I just don't want to see similar slip ups in future movies.

"Also the whole armour thing show people complaint about something that did happened in the past"

You make a fair point, but the "armor criticism" isn't necessarily invalid either. It's just the way some people prefer the character to be (aka being true to the source material). In the comic books (prior to the New 52) Batman didn't wear armor, he just had exceptional acrobatic skills to the point where he could take you down before you could shoot him or maneuver his way out of your shot.

Personally I don't mind the armor and I think it makes more sense for the type of movies in the Nolan Trilogy. It also makes fight choreography a lot easier.

Just because you disagree with somebody doesn't mean you can say "it's just hating", because it isn't always just hating. In the case of the portrayal of a beloved character some people will take issue with the way they're displayed.

Batman is not Darth Vader, also is live action and you can see the lips of the character, they change of the voice of Vader, is explain to be the machine he uses is what does this, in the moment he is not having his mask with him his voice is out.

Batman has to try to sound like other person, in the comics many people that has hear Bruce Wayne and Batman, point they sound the same, even once Alfred had to fool some people to belive it was their imagination.

Batman in live action has never sounded like Kevin Conroy.

But again in the comics Batman cant get kill, even Darksied tried and failed, its more easy to kill Superman that kill Batman, this is because of the medium, the character has to fit the medium, Batman has to be a human in the peaks of human skills, a human at his peak, if it gets shot, is dead, not only that in the comic several bullets had hit him, in the comics getting hit by a bullet is not a big problem but in a movie, if you get hit by a bullet people is not going to belive it so easly, it make him metahuman, it works for Captain America.

Even if you compare many of the writers, several dont like the idea of Batman being nearly immortal some other like more the idea of Batman being human, the comic depend on the writer, Bill Finger the original writer liked more the idea of reallistic villains and reallistic elements.
Many people look to forget people has try in real life to be a superhero and got killed for the fact they think.

The protrayal of the character is more that the voice, the fact they only point the voice is what i find ridiculous, they could dislike Batman is not Batman 24/7, that Batman and bruce Wayne are separated characters, heck i even give you the not being dod alike all mighty Batgod, but only the voice is not enough of an argument, it would be if it was animated.

I agree with you. Is quite difficult making a comic book into a live action feature film or TV series.
Movies are teamwork efforts and take much longer to do.
Every director and producer has his or her own version of the character and how they want the actor to portray him from their script to the screen.
Fanboys and fangirls who aren't directly finacially involved in the movie studio don't have say on this.

:iconjakethedogplz::iconsaysplz:Arrow being the main example, but since he is less popular that Batman people dont go bananas about the changes, Smallville got a pass by many people, i still dont understand why people cant give this to Nolan, Affleck, Snyder and others, its a movie, its not the 52 that at least is would understand the reaction, but by being living in the nostaloa world, you get your door close to new things.
